Alejandra Martinez
Alejandra is an Australian-Uruguayan writer based in the Blue Mountains, NSW. Salsa in the Suburbs, published by Puncher and Wattmann is her debut novel.
Alejandra’s stories have been published in a range of anthologies and magazines, including Best Australian Stories (Black Inc), Girls Talk and Puentes Review.
Her story, the President’s Bodyguard’, was chosen as a reading for a Radio National program. She has also written short plays, one which was performed at the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta.
Her writing explores migration and universal themes of identity and belonging, loss, ageing, mental health, and resilience. She was the winner of the 2022 Newcastle Writers Festival Fresh Ink Emerging Writer Prize, for an extract from her manuscript Salsa in the Suburbs.
She has been a curator for Writing NSW Boundless Festival, hosting, ‘A Home of One’s Own’ at the Joan in Penrith NSW.
